Description
The Penn's Landing Corporation is a non-profit organization, quasi-public corporation that was established in 1970 to manage the publicly-owned land on the central waterfront on behalf of the City of Philadelphia and the commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Its overall mission is to promote the use and development of Philadelphia's central waterfront.
The Corporation has a 20-person Board of Directors that is comprised of eleven (11) ex-officio directors (elected officials and members of the City Administration) and nine (9) representatives of the private sector who are elected by the Board (three each year, with members serving a three-year term).
The main goals of the Corporation are:
- To provide a quality program of year-round events, festivals and activities at Penn's Landing for the enjoyment of the citizens of the Greater Philadelphia region and visitor's to the region; and
- To encourage and facilitate the development of the central waterfront district (Spring Garden Street to Reed Street) consistent with public policy and development plans supported by the Corporation.
